Just about a month has passed since a normal school day turned into something much different for one of Tri Elementary School's wonderful students, Easton. On April 17th, 2024, a simple game of tag, no different than what occurs on any given school day, turned into a potentially life-threatening situation due to a freak accident. Though upon first glance the injury did not appear to be serious, teacher Mrs. Solomon kept close watch on Easton and made the life-saving decision to send him into the nurse for further assessment. Upon arrival, Mrs. Shelby Hall trusted her judgment and made yet again another life-saving decision to call 911.
It is frequently stated that “every moment matters, and in this case, every moment truly did matter more than anyone may have realized in the moment. Because of the swift actions taken by Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Solomon, Easton is now on the road to recovery.
At Tuesday night's Board meeting, school nurse Shelby Hall and teacher Alyssa Solomon were honored for their quick acts that ultimately may have saved the Easton's life. Surrounded by their own family and friends, and the family of the student, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Solomon received "You Make a Difference" Challenge Coins. Additionally, Easton's family donated a weeping cherry tree, now planted outside the nurses office, in honor of their swift and heroic acts.
The following statement from the Easton's family was read at the meeting:
"We would like to express our gratitude to Mrs. Solomon and Mrs. Hall. We cannot thank you enough for the awareness and quick action you both took that day. Both of you played a huge part in saving Easton's life and we will never be able to repay you for that. We wanted to do something for both of you. We purchased a weeping cherry tree to plant here at Tri in honor of you. Every time you see it please remember how wonderful you are and how thankful we are for you. Also, thank you to Mrs. Emily Hamm, Mr. Duncan and the entire staff at Tri Elementary for all of the thoughts, prayers, gifts and cards for Easton. We would also like to thank Abby Davis and her crew for being so wonderful working with us to get the tree planted. We are truly blessed our kids are Titans."
We are so grateful for Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Solomon for trusting their instincts. Additionally, we will forever be grateful that a day that started like many others, turned into a day to celebrate our blessings rather than something much different.

Due to the forecast of rain/thunderstorms tomorrow, we have made the decision to postpone Spring Olympics. The event will now take place on the rain date--Monday, May 20th.
While we were eagerly looking forward to tomorrow's festivities, the safety and enjoyment of all participants are our top priorities. We believe rescheduling the event will ensure a better experience for everyone involved.
We kindly ask that volunteers (classroom parent or event) who are no longer able to serve on Monday, please reach out to your classroom teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

Last week, our TEDEd club presented their speeches at STEAM night!
These students have been working extremely hard to create and present their speeches in front of an audience. We are extremely proud of these students! Thank you, Miss Mattix, for leading this group and mentoring them.
Here are some words from Miss Mattix: "At STEAM night, TEDEd students presented their speeches!! They have worked incredibly hard to research and write about their passions, create their presentations, and practice their speeches. I could not be prouder of them! They were just a little nervous about speaking in front of a lot of people, but they rocked it!"
Way to go, Titans!

This honor is given to a select number of elementary schools across the U.S. for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through PLTW Launch, an elementary STEM curriculum. Did you know that Tri Elementary School has a TED-Ed Club?! Our students are filled with curious, innovative, brilliant and thoughtful ideas; we know there is a significant impact when students are not only asked about their passions and perspectives, but when they work to develop and share those ideas to a larger audience. Through this program, students develop both 21st century skills and are better prepared to advocate for the problems of today and the future. Here you see two of our TED-Ed speakers practicing.
Our students will have the chance to share their TED Talks next Thursday, May 9th during TES Family Night.

Congratulations to Tri's very own, Amy Stevens, on being recognized as a 2024 Armstrong Teacher Educator Award recipient by the Indiana University School of Education. The Armstrong Teacher Educator Award is more than a “Teacher of the Year” award. In addition to recognizing educator excellence, the award provides financial support for top Indiana educators to work with current IU faculty and undergraduates in the classroom and early field experiences. We are proud of you, Mrs. Stevens!
