South Henry Family, With last week's blast of winter weather and the threat of ice this evening, it's a great time to review our process for making decisions for school delays and cancellations. Please know, it is always our goal to have "in-person" classes. We understand the hardship on families when schedules change and we also believe that the classroom is one of the best places for a child to learn. With that said, the safety of our people is always our first priority. These decisions are not taken lightly and involve many moving parts including quickly changing conditions and forecasts, building conditions such as heat and electricity, ability for buses to start, air temperature and wind chill, estimated times of snow removal from roads, lots, and sidewalks, and more. Weighing all factors involved, these tough decisions are made using the process spelled out in this infographic. We appreciate your grace and understanding as we strive to protect our Titan students, staff, and family. THANK YOU!

School Delays and Cancellations
Good morning, TES families! Today, Friday, January 19th, 2024, will be a synchronous virtual learning day due to inclement weather. Here is a framework for our virtual learning day. You may expect your child's teacher to communicate more specific details including assignments and links. Please refer to the South Henry Guardian Guide shared via Bloomz for specific expectations regarding attendance and work completion per Indiana guidelines. If you have any questions, please first contact your child's teacher. You may also contact Mrs. Hamm (ehamm@shenry.k12.in.us) or Mrs. Stevens (astevens@shenry.k12.in.us) if you need additional technical support or guidance. If your child with an IEP needs additional assistance, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Worl (sworl@shenry.k12.in.us) or Mrs. Hays (hhays@shenry.k12.in.us). We thank you for your flexibility and teamwork as we strive to provide a meaningful day of learning for our students!

Good morning! The software company that we use for automated phone calls is experiencing delays in their call system today. As you know, we use many different methods of communication in the event of school delays and closures. It appears that text messaging, app notifications, and social media worked properly. Unfortunately, it appears that phone calls have not yet gone out to many of our Titan families. These calls are still showing "pending" and may come to you later this morning. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. Thank you.

Technical Difficulties
Due to inclement weather and poor road conditions, the South Henry School Corporation will be closed to in-person classes on Friday, January 19th, 2024. Today will be a synchronous eLearning Day. Students should plan to participate in eLearning as directed by your child’s school and teacher. Go Titans!

The South Henry School Corporation will operate on a two hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17th, 2024. Extreme cold temperatures create challenges for heating systems and buses. If we experience challenges with these systems or if buses will not start properly, please know that this delay could change to a school closure (synchronous eLearning Day). We thank you for your grace and understanding. Go Titans!

We are immensely grateful for Bobbi Plummer and our Henry County leadership for listening to the concerns created by the St. Rd. 103 closure for our families coming to us from the north and west. They have been quick to act, installing flashing signs at the intersection 500s and 25w. They have also completed a traffic study in this area as well. With today's blast of snowy weather, we are thankful for those looking out for the safety of the South Henry family and we are reminded of the importance of alert and careful driving. Please continue to have conversations with our young drivers about driving slowly, putting cell phones away, and being attentive to the road and its conditions. We love our Titans and want to keep them safe! Go Titans!

TES is full of technology rockstars! 📚 Mrs. Hamm went LIVE to all of Tri Elementary to read a story to the students. ❄️ It was a great opportunity for students to show their problem solving skills and model digital citizenship. This was also great practice to show expectations to students on how to operate a Google Meet in case of a Synchronous learning day. Way to go, Titans!

🌟 We are spotlighting a classroom that was working extremely hard today! Here is Mrs. Nolley's Classroom working in partners on their fluency. Students were reading out loud to each other and helping correct mistakes if they made any. All students were respectful, responsible, and ready to learn! Way to go, Mrs. Nolley's class! 👏🏻

Tri Elementary will be hosting our first annual school-wide spelling bee on January 19th! Classroom bees were held in grades 3, 4, and 5 at the end of the semester to determine those who will compete at the school-wide bee. Congratulations to those students pictured who qualified for the school-wide bee as classroom champions or runner-up contestants!

We LOVE celebrating good news at Tri Elementary! Each day, teachers and staff may recognize students for going above and beyond in the classroom and surrounding settings. When students are nominated, they receive a special certificate, name call on the announcements, bracelet, and prize! The best part is when students get to share the good news by making a special phone call with Mrs. Hamm to his or her parents/family member of choice! Congrats to these students who were nominated, recognized, and celebrated in the month of December!

📣 Amazing report from Mrs. Miller! "Our gingerbread man has been up to some amazing adventures! He’s made it to almost all 50 states and 3 different countries! Today, we received a plush gingerbread man from a kind 9 year old girl in our community!" Thank you to our community donator who made this happen, and also to our volunteers who have been mailing our kindergarten gingerbread man! They have absolutely loved this! 🎄
