IMPORTANT SCHOOL BUS SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
South Henry Family,
The South Henry School Corporation has recently experienced an uptick in school bus stop arm violations. In Indiana, it's illegal for drivers to pass a stopped school bus that has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. This applies to all roads except for motorists on a highway that is divided by a barrier, such as a concrete wall or grassy median.
This can become confusing for motorists, particularly in times of construction such as what is happening on US40. Please note that traffic cones or barrels such as seen many places on US40 do not designate a divided highway and motorists, moving in both directions, should still stop for flashing lights and stop arms. With this said, there are places on US40 where concrete barriers are in place dividing the highway. According to the Indiana State Police, these concrete barriers would designate a division and motorists traveling the opposite direction are not required to stop.
While this can be confusing, it is always best to err on the side of caution for the safety of our students.
South Henry School Corporation buses are equipped with stop arm cameras. Those who illegally pass a stopped school bus will be held accountable. Tickets have and will continue to be written, and individuals will be referred to the Henry County Prosecutor's Office. Violators could pay a fine of up to $10,000 or have their license suspended for up to 90 days for the first offense or up to a year for the second.
We thank you for your continued help and support as we strive to protect our most precious assets...our children.
Mr. Jeremy Duncan
Superintendent, South Henry School Corporation

NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The South Henry School Corporation is elated to announce that our very own Amy Stevens has been named to the Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE) Class of 2023.
In 1995, Apple created the ADE Program to recognize K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Celebrating 28 years, the program has grown into a worldwide community of visionary and innovative leaders in education, helping other educators rethink what’s possible with iPad and Mac. Learn more about the contributions of ADEs worldwide at https://www.apple.com/education/k12/apple-distinguished-educator/.
“Hearing the news that I have been selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator is an incredibly proud moment for me personally and for my professional career. I take great pride in being recognized as a leader in technology education who sparks joy and acts as a catalyst for learning,” said Mrs. Stevens.
According to Apple, these educators are active leaders from around the world that are helping other educators rethink what’s possible in the classroom with the use of iPads, Macs, and other Apple technologies.
Amy Stevens, a teacher at Tri Elementary School, is one of those pioneering educators.
“Being recognized in this elite category of educators, not just locally or nationally, but worldwide, speaks to Mrs. Stevens’ desire to better herself as an educator and the quality opportunities that she is providing our students daily. We are incredibly grateful for Mrs. Stevens and all that she does for our students and staff,” said Superintendent, Mr. Jeremy Duncan.
“What a well-deserved honor for Mrs. Stevens! Mrs. Stevens is a true champion for creativity, innovation, and integration when it comes to Apple products and applications. She makes possible happen for technology, teaching, and learning for our entire school community,” said Mrs. Alcorn, Tri Elementary School principal.
Mrs. Stevens is in her fourth year of teaching at Tri Elementary School. The entire South Henry School Corporation family would like to congratulate her on such an incredible achievement.

Spring is in the air! With that being said, please be aware of the school dress code for our Titans. Here is a gentle reminder about the school dress code from our handbook.
Dress Code
Student dress is the responsibility of both the student and the parent/guardian. A student is expected to be dressed properly for the activities in which the student is to participate.
Shoes/Footwear - Appropriate footwear will be worn at all times. High heel shoes and platform shoes are not allowed. Heel height is recommended to be ½” to 1” or under. NO flip-flop sandals, slides, or sandals without a strap around the heel. Your student should wear athletic shoes on days they have P.E. No “Heelys” or shoes that have "wheels" or "spinners" in the soles are allowed. Slippers are NOT considered appropriate footwear (except when permitted on certain spirit days).
Shorts, Skirts, Skorts and Dresses - Shorts, skirts, skorts, and dresses must not be shorter than 5 inches above the knee. The measurement is taken from the side of the leg. The top of a slit must end no less than 5 inches above the knee cap.
Shirts, Blouses, and Tops - Shirts, blouses, and tops cover the shoulder and be at least 3” in width. No shirts, tops, or blouses will be worn that would allow the midriff or abdominal area to be visible from any angle including when the arms are stretched upward. Plunging necklines, spaghetti straps, tank tops, mesh tops, & halter tops are not permitted nor is clothing that is inappropriately revealing.
Jeans and Pants -Any jeans or pants that have holes above the knee or are revealing in some nature including tights, leggings, or boxers under the pants above the knee are inappropriate. No holes, patches, tears, or shreds are permitted above the knee.
Generally, any article of clothing that may cause damage to school property will be unacceptable. Examples: rivets on blue jeans, chains hanging from pants or cleats on boots or shoes. “Heelys” or wheels on shoes are not permitted.
Clothing with language or images that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene or clothing that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia, or clothing that contains threats such as gang symbols is prohibited.
No article of clothing should be worn that is distracting to others, or too large to wear (this includes oversized & undersized pants and shirts). Pants that sag around the lower hips and/or expose undergarments will not be permitted. Excessively tight clothing, such as leggings or tights, are not permitted unless covered by shorts, skirts, dresses, shirts, or blouses that are at least knee length.
Sunglasses, hats, bandanas, hoods on heads, caps, etc. will not be worn in school (except when permitted on certain spirit days).
Pajamas are not considered school attire and should not be worn to school (except when permitted on certain spirit days).
Any jewelry, accessories, armbands, wristbands, or other attachments that could create danger or injury to others or interfere with learning are not permitted.
No blankets or pillows permitted (except when permitted on certain spirit days).
The building principal, or designee, may determine whether or not the attire creates a disruption to the learning environment. If the administration feels that dress is inappropriate and it does not fall into the above categories, students will be asked to change into appropriate attire. When necessary, students will be sent to the school clinic for appropriate attire to change into. Failure to do so may result in progressive discipline. Parents/Guardians may be contacted whenever dress is inappropriate and may be asked to bring appropriate attire to school.
